View Our Work
During Threespot’s first year in business, we worked with the founder of Dischord Records, Ian MacKaye, to create a website that would bring the label’s mail-order business online. MacKaye started Dischord in 1980 to chronicle the music, spirit, and evolution of the DC punk scene. Admittedly, we had a special affinity for the project—Dischord was also an independent shop built from the ground up, guided by a DIY work ethic that inspires us to this day.
As enthusiasts of the label, Threespot was able to approach the project from a fan’s viewpoint. We designed the site to honor Dischord’s mission of documenting DC punk rock, from the information architecture to the look and feel. The site layout helps fans trace a musician’s entire career by providing cross-links to other bands they’ve played with. We gave fans access to information they could only previously find on liner notes. And we asked MacKaye to write a history of Dischord, the one that only he could. When Dischord eventually added MP3s to their website, they took the redesign in-house (in the true DIY spirit!). Threespot is proud to have provided a foundation for them to evolve their web presence.
